May Our Hearts Sing of Peace is a choir anthem I wrote in 2023 using the words of John Birch with his permission. The song is a prayer asking God to help us feel and express His peace, His joy, His forgiveness, His Grace in the world. The final words are a reminder that we are to sing of these things at all times, even in the storms of life.
Musically, this piece is written for the amateur choir and has a comfortable range in all four vocal parts and a simple rhythm in the voice parts. For example, the soprano line ranges from F4 to E5. The piano accompaniment has more rhythmic intensity at times to keep the flow moving forward. Some sections include all four parts singing together, and other sections have two or three voices singing together to provide contrast. It is short and would be appropriate for use as an introit or benediction response.
Music is at the heart of my life. The final line, May our hearts sing always, could be my personal mantra. It isn’t always easy to achieve but it is certainly my desire.
