
I am renewing my committment to keeping track of things that make me happy each month. Of course there will be some repeats each month because I’m always happy for massages, dogs, and music. But this time I want to intentionally be aware of new things I can add to the list each month. A gratitude practice or “happy things” list is a great way to change my mindset. Like many people, it is much easier to pay attention to the things that make me unhappy than it is to focus on what does make me happy. I find it is also easy to take the happy things forgranted.
Here is my January 2026 Happy Things List (in no particular order):

Naps with my dogs
Holidays from work
Space heaters
Roxy
Snow
Massage Days
A new composition book
Phone calls from family
Letters from friends
Spicy vegetable soup with crackers
Payday
An amazing veterinarian
Composition lessons
Having a mentor
A clean kitchen
Singing with Bob at church
Paid holidays
Voice lessons
Friends at church
Friends at work
